The Festival Director, Peter Sellars, attempted to re-focus the energy of the great biennial event back onto the city and the people of the city..This was not a popular concept, especially when prefaced by Sellars apparent denigration of the low architectural standard and spiritual malaise he observed, and then reported, to the local press.
